What it is
Oxandrolone is a C-17 alpha-alkylated oral anabolic steroid, derived from dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Originally developed by Searle in 1964 and approved for muscle wasting from disease, prolonged corticosteroid use, severe burns, and HIV-associated wasting. Marketed historically as Anavar.
Non-aromatizing. The C-17 alkylation is what makes it orally active but also imposes first-pass hepatic metabolism, which is why oxandrolone (like all C-17aa orals) is associated with liver-enzyme elevation.
