What it is
Liothyronine sodium — the synthetic form of triiodothyronine (T3), the active thyroid hormone. The body naturally produces T4 (thyroxine, the primary circulating form) and T3 (the active form, mostly converted from T4 in peripheral tissues by deiodinase enzymes).
FDA-approved for hypothyroidism and myxedema coma. Half-life is approximately 1 day, considerably shorter than T4.
