What it is

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced during pregnancy by the developing placenta. It is structurally similar to luteinizing hormone (LH) and binds the same receptor.

In males, LH-receptor activation in the testes stimulates Leydig cells to produce testosterone. Because HCG mimics LH, it can drive endogenous testosterone production directly at the testicular level, bypassing the pituitary.
