What it is

Melanotan-II is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It binds melanocortin receptors (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R) and was originally developed at the University of Arizona in the 1980s.

MC1R activation drives melanin production in skin (pigmentation). MC4R activation affects appetite and sexual arousal pathways.
