What it is
MK-677, also known as ibutamoren, is an orally bioavailable, non-peptide ghrelin receptor agonist developed by Merck and later licensed to Reata Pharmaceuticals. It produces effects similar to peptide secretagogues by stimulating pituitary growth hormone release, but is taken as a tablet rather than injected.
It has been investigated in clinical trials for conditions including age-related muscle and bone loss, hip-fracture recovery, and growth hormone deficiency. It has not received approval as a medication.
Why customers ask about it
- Oral — no injections required
- Long half-life — once-daily dosing in studies
- Lower price point than injectable secretagogues
- Increased appetite is commonly reported (relevant for both bulking and weight-loss contexts)
Important
Although grouped here with peptide secretagogues for convenience, MK-677 is technically a small molecule, not a peptide. Banned by WADA for competitive athletes.
