What it is
Testosterone is the principal endogenous androgen and the most-studied anabolic-androgenic steroid. The forms listed here differ only in the ester attached to the testosterone molecule, which affects how slowly the compound is released from injection sites and therefore the dosing schedule.
- Enanthate / Cypionate: long-acting (week-plus half-life)
- Sustanon: a blend of four esters (propionate, phenylpropionate, isocaproate, decanoate) providing both fast and sustained release
- Suspension: unesterified testosterone in aqueous suspension; very rapid action, requires frequent injections
Pharmaceutically, testosterone is approved in many jurisdictions for hypogonadism and replacement therapy. It aromatizes to estradiol.
